Suspect charged after firing shots at Columbus police officers serving search warrant

Police say the suspect who fired at the officers 27-year-old Jerry Briggs, was charged with Felonious Assault on a Police Officer.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two suspects have been apprehended after the Columbus Division of Police said shots were fired at officers on the city's north side Wednesday morning.

According to police, Columbus In-Tac officers were serving a narcotics search warrant for Hilliard police at a home on E. 23rd Avenue just before 10 a..m. when one of the suspects fired shots.

Officers immediately returned fire and arrested the suspects. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Police say the suspect who fired at the officers 27-year-old Jerry Briggs, was charged with Felonious Assault on a Police Officer. The other suspect faces criminal charges in Hilliard.

No one was injured in the incident. The Columbus Police Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is investigating.
