NEW ALBANY, Ohio — Mount Carmel Health System announced Monday that their New Albany facility will be getting an expansion to include an emergency department for the first time since the hospital opened over 20 years ago.

The company said that the new emergency department will have eight beds, including five standard emergency rooms, one trauma room, one sexual assault nurse room and one behavioral health room.

“The new emergency department will allow us to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our community, ensuring that residents have access to emergency care in their backyard,” said Diane Doucette, president & chief operating officer of Mount Carmel New Albany, Lewis Center, St. Ann’s and Dublin. “The New Albany population is projected to grow by 5% over the next 5 years and this new emergency department allows us to anticipate the future needs of this area.”

The new emergency department will be led by Dr. Al Gora, Dr. Douglas Katula, and Dr. Adolph Lombardi.

“December 2023 marked the 20th anniversary of the Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital,” said Dr. Lombardi. “The new emergency department will afford better opportunities to serve our patients who place their confidence in us.”

The emergency room is set to open this fall.
