Trooper suffers serious injuries after being struck by vehicle on I-71 in southern Franklin County

The trooper was removing debris from the road when a vehicle struck his cruiser. The impact caused the cruiser to move forward, hitting the trooper.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was injured after he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 71 in the southern part of Franklin County Monday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 10:44 a.m. on the northbound side of I-71 near state Route 665 in Grove City.

Trooper Adrian Wilson was outside of his marked cruiser, with its overhead emergency lights activated, removing debris from the road when a Toyota RAV4 struck the rear of his vehicle.

The impact caused the cruiser to move forward, striking Wilson.

Wilson and the driver of the RAV4 sustained serious injuries and were taken to Grant Medical Center. Authorities said Wilson's condition was listed as critical but it has since improved.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said alcohol and/or drug impairment are believed to have been a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.

I-71 north from US 62 to state Route 665/London-Groveport Road was closed for several hours after the crash but has since reopened.
