COLUMBUS -- A fired Columbus police officer will get his job back, following a decision made by an arbitrator.

Officer Randall Mayhew pleaded guilty to and was convicted of dereliction of duty. He was let go by the city in August 2018.

Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Cynthia Ebner sentenced Mayhew to two years’ probation, 30 hours of community service and fined him $150 in addition to court costs.

Three women accused Mayhew of paying them for sex while he was in uniform and on duty in 2015.

An internal affairs investigation found he bought sex, engaged in conduct unbecoming and falsified a police run.

Mayhew appealed his firing, and the arbitrator ultimately ruled he should be reinstated. The arbitrator also said Mayhew should not receive backpay.

He will not rejoin the force until the public safety director signs the paperwork.
