Family, friends remember victims killed in Indian Lake tornado

The EF3 tornado killed three people in Logan County last week.

LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — Family and friends are remembering the lives of three people killed in a tornado that ripped through Logan County's Indian Lake last week.

The sheriff's office identified the victims as 81-year-old Marilyn Snapp, of Lakeview, 70-year-old Darla Williams, of Lakeview, and 69-year-old Neal Longfellow, of Orchard Island. Both women were residents of the Geiger Mobile Home Park on Harrison Street. Longfellow lived close by.

“They were best friends. She helped take care of Marilyn when she needed anything. She would make dinner in the crock pot and go over and share with her,” said MaKayla Sadler, Williams' great niece.

Tears filled Sadler's eyes as she looked at what was left as Williams' property. She said he gives her comfort knowing Williams and Snapp are still together.

"Neither one of them went alone. I'm very thankful she was not alone," Sadler said.

She said Williams, who has two children, was like a mother to many and would help anyone.

"We lost a huge part of our family. She was one lady, but damn it she was probably 101. She was all over this place for anyone," Sadler said.

Longfellow lived about three miles east of Lakeview in Orchard Island. He also passed away in the storm.

“He was a goofy guy, fun and loving. He appreciated the little things like a sunset and sunrise,” said his son, Neal F. Longfellow.

His son, who has the same name, explained his mom and brother were in the mobile home with his dad, and survived.

His brother was released from the hospital Monday and his mom was moved out of the ICU.

Neal says he doesn't have words for his loss, but wants his dad to watch over him.

"Right now I'm in recovery. I have been sober for 10 months. The last thing he told me, the last conversation we had, he told me he was proud of me for being sober,” he said. A GoFundMe was launched to help pay for Longfellow's funeral.

While these families mourn, they are thinking about all the families impacted by the tornado.

“It's very devastating. The lake is one big community, but it is a community that will come together and they will get all of this rebuilt. We will have our beautiful Indian Lake back and we will have angels watching over us,” Sadler said.
