5 taken into custody after stolen Kia crashes into police cruiser in north Columbus

The crash happened near the intersection of North 4th Street and Wyandotte Avenue just before 3:20 p.m. on Saturday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Five people are in custody after a stolen Kia crashed into a police cruiser in north Columbus Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash happened near the intersection of North 4th Street and Wyandotte Avenue just before 3:20 p.m.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were attempting to locate a suspicious vehicle that fled from a traffic stop. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and set up a perimeter. The vehicle then hit a cruiser head-on

Police initially told 10TV that three people were in custody, but later clarified that five people are in custody.

No officers were injured in the crash. Police said one of the juveniles inside the stolen Kia was transported to an area hospital in "stable" condition.

Charges are pending.
