Winners of 9th annual Columbus Blue Jackets 5th Line 5K race announced

This year, those who took part in the event got two free tickets to a Blue Jackets game, a finisher’s medal and a race shirt.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets held its ninth annual 5th Line 5K with OhioHealth on Sunday. This year, the event brought more than 3,500 participants to Nationwide Arena.

The race started outside of Nationwide Arena and took runners and walkers on a 3.1-mile journey through downtown Columbus and the Arena District. Participants crossed the finish line back in the arena on center ice.

Those who took part in the event got two free tickets to a Blue Jackets game, a finisher’s medal and a race shirt.

Here are the 2023-24 5th Line 5K game options:

  • Sunday, Feb. 25 vs. Rangers
  • Thursday, Feb. 29 vs. Hurricanes
  • Monday, March 4 vs. Golden Knights
  • Thursday, March 7 vs. Oilers
  • Thursday, March 14 vs. Senators
  • Sunday, March 17 vs. Jets
  • Monday, April 1 vs. Avalanche
  • Thursday, April 4 vs. Islanders
  • Tuesday, April 16 vs. Hurricanes

Julia Wiseman, a participant at the event, said she's been running for 25 years and has taken part in the 5th Line 5K four or five times now.

"It's fun to get out here this morning and just be with thousands of people and put a race in," Wiseman said. "This is the perfect race to come do for your first race. If you're first or you're the last person across the finish line, everybody is celebrated the same, everybody gets the same experience and you get two free Blue Jackets tickets."

First place in the overall race went to New Albany resident Zachariah Zimmerman who finished with a time of 14:23. Karter Tow, from Van Wert, finished with a time of 4:48. In third was David Hall, from Columbus, with a time of 5:07.
