An industrial design class with the Columbus College of Art and Design has been tasked with coming up with toy prototypes for a non-profit known as Craftsmen for Kids.
They’re a group of retirees who make wood toys for Head Start programs across the state. It started as an effort by two men eight years ago. Now, the group supplies all sorts of toys to 109 classrooms.
The toys are priceless to the Head Start programs.
“It’s just giving children an experience to problem solve, to figure things out, to learn how things work, to manipulate stuff,” said Melissa Shaw of the LEADS Head Start program.
The CCAD students will show the Craftsmen their final prototypes, then the groups will choose the models they will mass produce.
