16-year-old girl killed in Licking County crash

Megan Hart, a student-athlete at Lakewood High School, died in a crash on Refugee Road near Canyon Road in Hebron on Thursday.

HEBRON, Ohio — A 16-year-old girl from Licking County was killed in a crash on Thursday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Megan Hart was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Refugee Road near Canyon Road in Hebron around 5:45 p.m.

A report from OSHP says Hart drove off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and concrete abutment head on. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

OSHP said Hart was a student-athlete at Lakewood High School in Licking County. She was on her way home from softball practice when the crash happened.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor.

Lakewood High School has brought in therapy dogs and grief counselors for students at the school on Friday.

Lakewood Athletics posted on X, “Please keep this great family in your thoughts during this difficult time. We are going to miss you 19.”
