Hundreds Wait For Glimpse Of Palin

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin started signing autographs on her new book early and stayed late to accommodate the hundreds who came out to see her on Friday night. Get details.

Former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin spent more thanthree hours signing her book, Going Rogue, at a northwest side bookstore on Friday night.

On the third day of Palin's book-signing tour, the Borders bookstore on Sawmill Road announcedthat the first 1,000 in line by the store's 10 a.m. opening would be guaranteed to get their bookssigned.  But Palin's staff called the store and told the managers to cut back to 500wristbands, causing hundreds to be turned away, 10TV's Kurt Ludlow reported.

At one point, Palin stepped outside the bookstore to greet people in line.  The rush tosurround her forced her security detail to usher Palin right back inside.

"I idolize Sarah Palin," said Nikki Hill, who drove up from Cincinnati to see Palin.  "Ilook up to her more than anybody and i never ever thought I'd get the chance to meet her. (She was) beautiful, elegant, intelligent, very personable, someone you just wouldn't expect to bea politician."

The line of people waiting for Palin stretched across the strip mall where she was. 

"She's gracious," said Olga Sherman, who waited in line.  "She's such a real person, such areal Christian."

To conservatives, Palin is a superstar, Ludlow reported.

"We conservatives are very thrilled about her," said Bob Bower, who waited in line.  "Shespeaks the truth in common language that we all understand."

"She's not cutthroat or backstabbing," said Cheryl Bircher, a Palin fan.  "She's just areal person and that's what I like about her."

The only disruption came from a Canadian woman who asked Palin for words of encouragement forCanadian conservatives.

"Keep the faith and that common sense conservatism," Palin said.  "It needs to be pluggedinto Canadian policies, OK?  Keep the faith."

At some of the stops in other cities, Palin was not able to sign everyone's books.  InColumbus, she started signing early and stay late to ensure everyone in line received an autograph,Ludlow reported.
