A new rehabilitation hospital for stroke and trauma patients is coming to central Ohio.

OhioHealth announced on Thursday that it is partnering with Select Medical to bring an inpatient rehabilitation hospital that focuses on the neuroscience patient, which specifically are neurological trauma and stroke patients.

“This new hospital, called OhioHealth Rehabilitation Hospital, will expand OhioHealth’s capability to serve its growing number of neuroscience patients who need rehabilitative care,” said Connie Gallaher, OhioHealth System Vice President of Neuroscience, in a release on Thursday.

The hospital will be located within the Victorian Village Health Center at 1087 Dennison Ave. in Columbus.

The hospital is scheduled to open in August.

OhioHealth currently retains approximately one-third of its patients who need inpatient rehabilitative care.

The new hospital will increase OhioHealth’s rehabilitation bed capacity from 15 to 44.

The existing 15 beds at Riverside Methodist Hospital will be transferred to the new hospital.

“We believe this hospital will literally change people’s lives for the better, helping them to not just recover but learn how to live everyday life once again,” said Rob Brehm, the president of Select Medical’s inpatient rehabilitation division.
