MARION - A small explosion at the Marion Public Health building downtown caused many streets to shut down Friday afternoon, according to the Marion Star.

Marion Fire Department Captain Wade Ralph said it happened around 4 p.m. when a 20-pound propane tank exploded, sending shrapnel across the roof as Marion firefighters battled the blaze.

K&W Roofing had a crew working on a project at the building since mid-March. The workers were laying large sections of rubber roofing when those materials are believed to catch fire.

At the time, there were 5 people on the roof and seven inside the building. Everyone was able to evacuate once the firefighters arrived on scene.

No one was injured from the fire.

The fire remains under investigation, and it's unclear how much damage was caused by the fire.
