There are more than 60 Kroger stores in the Columbus area, and each one hiresindividually.

But the Kroger distribution center in Delaware has dozens of openings right now, most forfull-time, hourly associates, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.

For someone looking for a job that gets them up and moving, the distribution center could be theright place.

"It's physical labor," said Kayla Staup, Kroger sanitation coordinator.  "It's notsomething that you can get by with sitting around a lot."

The company is looking to fill 75 order selectors right now, Bell reported.  There are alsoa handful of open management and clerical positions.

With 900 employees already in this warehouse, prospective workers should be ready to work hardand get along with others.

"This is very much a team effort," Staup said.  "One person doesn't work; it's hard to getthe job done."

Jobs get filled at the distribution center because the pay is good and the work is rewarding, but it can also be demanding.

"It's a hard job," said Kroger lift operator Robert Lawrence.  "This is warehouse work, butjust knowing and getting a full day's work, getting honest pay, that's very rewarding formyself."

Also satisfying is the knowledge that employees are feeding the community.

Every six minutes, a truckload of groceries leaves the building, headed for a Kroger storesomewhere in a three-state radius.

"I've been here 27 years and I've never experienced a layoff at any time," Lawrence said "And weknow with the service in the community, people have to eat, so the job is always here."

Other things appeal to employees, including a good benefits package, opportunity for advancementand the chance to bring in extra money.

Kroger lift operator Julia Campbell said there is usually overtime available.

"You can get as much overtime as you want most of the time," she said. "It just depends on howwe're going, and it's food, so it's pretty good job security."

Campbell said there is also the pride factor.

"These people I work with out here, that's my family, too," Campbell said.  "So it'simportant to me that we all do a good job."
