The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with a social media website in hopes of curbing crime.

The website is Nextdoor which is used to increase neighborhood safety.

Nextdoor is a private social network which provides a virtual neighborhood watch.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is the first sheriff's office in the midwest to use Nextdoor, according to a news release.

“Having the ability to easily communicate with residents is extremely vital to not only maintaining, but increasing, safety and reducing crime within our Franklin County communities,” said Sheriff Zach Scott.

More than 330 neighborhoods are currently using Nextdoor.

With Nextdoor, Franklin County residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets.

The Sheriff’s Office will post information such as news, services, safety tips and emergency notifications to Nextdoor.

Nextdoor is free for residents and the Sheriff's Office. Each Franklin County neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood.

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address.
