Columbus Zoo Acquires Fluffy The Python Offspring

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has a new addition -- and it is related to the late Fluffy, the reticulated python that was recognized as the world's longest snake.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is keeping it in the family with its newest addition.

The zoo welcomed a new reticulated python to its Asia Quest exhibit on Tuesday.  The femalesnake is the offspring of Fluffy, the python that died in October, 10TV News reported.

The private breeder who sold Fluffy to the zoo in 2007 also had the snake's daughter.  Thezoo said it decided to acquire the younger snake after Fluffy's death.

The 18-year-old Fluffy was known around the world for her size. 

She was 24 feet long and weighed 300 pounds, earning recognition from the Guinness Book of WorldRecords as the world's longest snake

Fluffy's daughter is 18 feet long and weighs about 200 pounds, the zoo said.

The new snake does not have a name, but the zoo said that it would soon announce plans for thepublic to assist in choosing one.
