When it comes to overtime, it pays to be a 911 dispatcher. With a salary of $57,175, one police communications technician took in $105,844 in overtime pay last year.
10TV obtained the city of Columbus’ overtime payouts for the year 2015. In total, the city paid out more than $30 million in overtime.
Employees of the Columbus Division of Police accounted for the most overtime pay, at $12.9 million. The Columbus Division of Fire and Public Utilities followed with $8.5 million and $6.2 million, respectively.
The amount of overtime paid by the city continued to increase over the past three years, rising from $25 million in 2012.
The same police dispatcher who raked in the cash this year had the highest overtime pay in 2014, too. The employee’s salary, including overtime, was $171,000. This year, it was near $167,000.
