4-year-old ejected, killed in I-270 crash

COLUMBUS -- One child is dead and another is in critical condition at Nationwide Children's Hospital after a four-vehicle crash shut down I-270 near U.S. 62 Sunday afternoon.

Four-year-old Mathew Cremeans was killed in the crash while brother Danny, 6, was listed in critical condition. Both are from New Lexington, Ohio. According to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, neither were wearing a seatbelt or in car seats at the time of the crash.

The crash occurred around 12:38 p.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of I-270 and involved four vehicles.

According to the release, a Ford Escape collided with a GMC Safari, ejecting the two children through the back window. The GMC collided with a Pontiac Sunfire which collided with a Toyota Carolla.

There was no report of other injuries in the press release.

The road, which was closed for several hours, has reopened.

The majority of the crash happened off the roadway.
