A former Marysville High School teacher has been charged for having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student.

Stacy L. McConoughey has been indicted on four counts of sexual battery, each is a felony, according to Union County Prosecuting Attorney David W. Phillips.

The counts stem from four separate sexual events, two of which allegedly occurring on school grounds.

The 36-year-old was charged for having sex with the male student from October 2014 to May 2015.

The student was in McConoughey’s English class and worked as her teacher’s aide.  He graduated in 2015.

“We cannot have a situation in a high school where sex between students and teachers occurs. The teacher is in a position of authority; the student is subordinate,” Phillips said.

Ohio law makes any sort of sexual relationship between a teacher and student at the school a felony, even if the student is 18 years old and consents.

“Parents rely on teachers to educate their children, not engage in a sexual relationship with them,” Phillips added.

McConoughey resigned from her position from the school after the relationship came to light.

She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges and register as a Tier III sex offender. McConoughey is scheduled to be arraigned July 2.
