Woman Starts Foundation To Honor Slain Sons

A mother whose husband shot and killed her two young sons before taking his own life is taking unimaginable grief and turning it into a force for helping and healing.

Sarah Adkins has been where few have ever been.  Adkins, whose married name was Geller, came home on Sept. 26 to find her sons, Solomon, 8, and Samson, 6, shot to death.

Her husband, Troy, had killed the boys before killing himself.

"I went to the basement and touched Sammy's face, which was cold," Adkins said.  "Cold and bloody and immediately I saw in my head my vision of God with his arms around my boys, saying, 'I got this Sarah.  You're OK.'"

Adkins said she and her husband were in the middle of a divorce and the murder-suicide came without warning.

In the months since her sons' deaths, Adkins said her faith and the help of two therapists have provided her with the strength to move forward.

She has also created a foundation to honor the memory of her sons.

"Solomon was intelligent, outgoing with so many friends," she said.

Her other son, Samson, was described as independent.

"He was funny and picky and very much his own person."

Adkins' foundation, The Solly and Sammy Foundation For Peace, will help women and children escape unsafe situations.

Adkins said the foundation is what she would want her boys to do if she were the one who was gone.

"To curl up in a ball and hate life? No," Adkins said.  "There's no way I would sit there and watch that.  Throw away their life? No, that's not what it's about.  Making it better."
