Woman killed in Fairfield County crash

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio — A woman is dead and a man is injured after a crash on U.S. 22 in Hocking Township, just southwest of Lancaster, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

OSHP said a driver was traveling east on U.S. 22 at around 1:10 p.m. when he crashed on Sunday.

Investigators said the driver went off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and a utility pole, and then flipped.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was flown to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries, according to OSHP.

OSHP said a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was identified as 86-year-old Marion Wheeler of Lancaster.

OSHP said neither occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.
