Woman determined to participate in New Albany Walking Classic after accident

This Sunday, thousands of walkers at all levels will hit the streets for the New Albany Walking Classic.

For some, it's part of their weekly commitment to a fit lifestyle. Some are in serious competition through the US track and field timed course.

Then there are participants like Rosemarie Bauer for whom this year's Walking Classic is a comeback after a major and near devastating setback.

“A year and a half ago I was in an accident and I was in the hospital for some time and I was told I would never walk again,” Bauer said.

The devastating prognosis came as Rosemarie Bauer was fighting to recover from an accident last fall that she barely remembers.

“I was walking my dog home from after a morning walk in October and a car from behind me came around and hit me,” she said.

It was a setback for this self-described fitness advocate who's participated in every Walking Classic except in 2017 because of her injuries. This year, Rosemarie is ready.

“I went through much therapy and then after that therapy and the hospital I came back to my dear Heit center because I knew they could help me here and indeed they have,” she said.
