Woman charged with stealing from donation box for fallen Westerville officers

Columbus police have arrested a woman accused of stealing from a donation box for two Westerville officers killed in the line of duty.

An employee at Average Joe’s on West Henderson Road on March 10 noticed their donation box to raise money for Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering had a few dollars inside. There was previously around $300.

The employee noticed on surveillance video that a woman who was playing Keno took the cash. The woman left before anyone could confront her.

An investigation by police led them to 62-year-old Donna Ater. She was arrested March 13 and charged with theft.

Ater pleaded no contest in court on Monday. She will be sentenced on June 4.
