COLUMBUS, Ohio (10TV) -- When snow falls in central Ohio, drivers often need a reminder on how to drive in the winter weather.

On Wednesday night, rain and snow fell across central Ohio. 10TV went to McGuire Driving Academy in Grove City for a refresher on how to handle rain, snow, and ice.

Herma McGuire is the owner of the driving school and has been an instructor for several years. We asked her, what was is the number-one mistake drivers make in winter weather?

"Thinking they can drive the posted speed limit - or speed! They just speed! You have to slow down to be safe," McGuire said.

McGuire shared the following tips to get you home safely:

  • Drive slowly
  • Keep your distance between you and the car in front of you
  • Tap your brakes several times before you come to a complete stop
  • If you can't see, get off the road - Do not drive with snow/rain on your windshield
