WESTERVILLE, Ohio — A senior at Westerville North High School got the surprise of a lifetime when she was asked to homecoming in the middle of a varsity football game.

Paige Dudley tells 10TV she was shocked to see Alex, the student helper from her class, approach her on the track a week before homecoming.

“Excited and happy,” Paige said when asked about her reaction.

Dudley is a high school senior living with Down syndrome. Her mother Lynette says the homecoming dance will be the first dance she attends. The family emphasizes inclusion and makes an effort enroll the 18-year-old in events with participants of all abilities.

“It makes me feel like they have accepted her for who she is,” Paige’s mother said. “They have embraced her and just to see her and get out there and do what the typically does makes me feel real good.”
