EF0 tornado touched down near Orient on Monday, NWS confirms

At least two homes in a mobile home community in Pickaway County flipped due to strong winds.

PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 tornado touchdown Monday near Orient as severe storms moved through the area.

The agency conducted surveys in Pickaway, Clark and Butler counties Tuesday after powerful storms swept through the state.

At least two homes in a mobile home community in Pickaway County flipped due to strong winds.

The tornado in Pickaway County had a maximum speed of 85 mph and was on the ground for about a mile and a half from about 4:03 p.m. to 4:05 p.m.

In addition to the damage at the mobile home park, the tornado crossed over Darby Creek Road, lifting a garage roof at a nearby property.

The tornado also damaged multiple abandoned structures at the Pickaway Correctional Institution south of the town.

Monday’s storms prompted several tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings with wind gusts being reported between 45 and 60 mph.

Multiple agencies, including the Pleasant Township Fire Department, were called to the Fox Lair Trailer Park on Goosehollow Circle just as storms were moving through.

The fire department says people were trapped inside when the homes flipped. Everyone was safely taken out of the homes, but some residents suffered minor injuries.
