Washington State defensive coordinator and secondary coach Alex Grinch has joined the Ohio State football coaching staff.

Grinch, who is native of Grove City, has been credited turning around the Cougars' defense in three seasons from 97th to 16th this past season.

“I am pleased to announce the addition of Alex Grinch to our coaching staff,” Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said. “I am very impressed with his body of work while at Washington State, as many others were, and am happy he chose to come home to Ohio to become a part of our Buckeye coaching staff.”

In 2017, his defense ranked seventh in pass efficiency and ninth with 28 turnovers forced.

Before coaching at Washington State, Grinch coached the secondary at Missouri, Wyoming and New Hampshire.

His specific responsibilities with the Buckeyes will be announced at a later date.
