Video shows Westland assistant principal involved in altercation with student

An assistant principal at Westland High School has been placed on administrative leave after getting into an altercation with a student in the cafeteria last week.

South-Western City Schools sent a letter to Jason Weese stating he is not allowed on school property and is forbidden from talking to any students while the incident is under investigation.

A cell phone video surfaced on social media showing the student being placed in what appears to be a chokehold.

The student who took the video told 10TV she started filming because the student was screaming as he was taken to the floor.

10TV has learned from another student that the incident allegedly started when two boys were "play fighting" and the assistant principal and school resource officer intervened.

The district says as soon as it learned of the incident, they reported it to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

A district spokesperson says the investigation will include talking to multiple students and adults who were present.

Attempts to reach Weese for comment were unsuccessful.
