Tyson Foods, Inc. is now recalling nearly 12 million pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip products “that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of metal,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

This recall announced Saturday is an expansion to the earlier March recall that consisted of more than 69,000 pounds of the chicken strip products.

The chicken strip products were produced on various dates between October 1, 2018, and March 8, 2019, and have "Use by" dates of October 1, 2019, through March 7, 2020. The products have an establishment number "P-7221" on the back of the package.

The issue was discovered when FSIS received two customer complaints of the extraneous material in the products. FSIS says it is now aware of six complaints involving similar pieces of metal. Three complaints allege oral injury.

FSIS says anyone with these products should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
