COLUMBUS – The Arena District will be a busy spot this weekend as crowds of people head to McFerson Commons to cheer on the thousands of people riding in Pelotonia.

Saturday morning, anyone riding 25, 45, 100, 180 or 200 miles will leave from McFerson Commons.

Expect delays on major roadways, like south High Street, Groveport Road and Ebright Road as riders make their way towards Pickerington.

Pickerington is where Pelotonia picks up cyclists specifically riding 75 or 155 miles.

Other riders will start from New Albany at the 31 Gifts Headquarters near SR-161, so expect heavy crows cheering them on there.

Come day two, look out for riders going the distance.

Cyclists will take to the roadways in the areas surrounding Denison University and Kenyon University.

Aside from a brief closure down High Street from the start of the ride, all roads will remain open for Pelotonia.

In an emailed statement, a representative from Pelotonia said:

Rider safety is our top priority. Pelotonia invests in a number of initiatives to proactively manage safety on the routes including hiring more than 250 police and highway patrol officers for route safety; coordinating with the Ohio Department of Transportation for signage; ensuring 1,000s of road signs are posted throughout the routes; and working with more than 300 medical volunteers, lead and tail support vehicles and 30 support and gear (SAG) vehicles.

It is recommended that drivers avoid the impacted roads if at all possible and if it is not possible, to be alert, drive slowly and respect the riders and law enforcement helping throughout the weekend.
