Tractor trailer fire shuts down I-70 eastbound to I-270 on city's east side

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A tractor trailer catching fire led to I-70 eastbound to I-270 on the city's east side shutting down, causing significant delays Wednesday afternoon.

The lanes have since been reopened.

Columbus police say it happened around 3 p.m. Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin says a lack of fire hydrants in the area led to them having other engines come in to deliver water.

Officials did not have an estimated time on when the ramp would reopen.

Martin said the tractor trailer contained "general goods and materials."
