This system is expected to push north into the Gulf of Mexico into early next week and could threaten the U.S. Gulf Coast as a hurricane later on in the week. By the midweek point, heavy rain, storm surge and strong winds are possible impacts on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Currently, Tropical storm warnings have been issued for portions of western Cuba and the northeast Yucatan Peninsula.

Computer models agree that this future tropical storm will continue to move north and will strengthen over the next several days.

This system also will be entering a favorable environment for storm development because of the very warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

Another factor aiding into the development of Tropical Depression Fourteen is that it will be entering an area of low shear, which also aids into the storms future development.
