Teens arrested, accused of beating man after online sale goes wrong

COLUMBUS – Two teenage boys are arrested and charged after police say they beat a man with a crowbar and a baseball bat in October.

Police said the 15-year-old and 16-year-old are charged with aggravated robbery, robbery, and felonious assault and kidnapping.

The 24-year-old victim was robbed and beaten during an online sale meet-up that went wrong, according to Columbus police.

Police originally stated they were meeting after agreeing to a sale of a gaming system on Craigslist but when they announced the arrests, they said the sale was on a site called OfferUp.

The man was in the area of Victory Court when four people assaulted and robbed him of around $200 at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The victim was taken to Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s in stable condition while the four suspects reportedly took off running through the neighborhood.

Police said they are still looking for other suspects in this case. If anyone has any information, they are asked to call 614-645-4588 or e-mail Det. Phillips Thomas at pthomas@columbuspolice.org.
