A teenager given the chance by a judge to make the right choices is now accused of aggravated murder, 10TV’s Tanisha Mallett reported.

Dequann Greathouse is accused of shooting and killing Vitien Forcha at the Knights Inn, located at 1300 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., April 20.

Police said that Frocha, 17, and a 20-year-old friend were sitting in a car in the motel’s parking lot when a man approached the car, pulled a pistol and demanded property.

According to police, the men got into a struggle and both Forcha, a senior at Northland High School, and his friend were shot. The 20-year-old was treated for a leg wound and was released.

Officers stopped a vehicle matching the description witnesses gave at the scene and arrested 18-year-old cousins Dequann Greathouse and Ronrecus Greathouse.

Dequann Greathouse, 18, was on probation at the time of the Knights Inn shooting.

According to Greathouse’s record, his history with the Juvenile Court started in 2006.

Greathouse’s most recent charges were aggravated riot, criminal damaging and robbery and attempted theft of a 71-year-old woman’s car.

According to court records, the magistrate handling Greathouse’s probation violation ruled that he would be committed to the Department of Youth Services for an indefinite term.

Instead, in August, Juvenile Court Judge Christopher Geer extended Greathouse’s probation until October.

The judge said that several people testified that Greathouse was making progress with counseling and that continuing it would help him with his decision-making, Mallett reported.

The judge told 10TV News Tuesday that the juvenile court is designed to rehabilitate children and give them the resources to make better choices. He said that it was unfortunate that Greathouse threw away the opportunity he was given.
