Teen killed after wrong-way driver hits multiple vehicles on U.S. 23 in Pickaway County

PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio - Two people are dead after a crash involving a wrong-way driver in Pickaway County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

On Saturday, at 10:42 p.m. a state trooper was headed southbound on U.S. 23 when he noticed a wrong-way driver coming towards him. The trooper turned on his lights, attempting to get the driver's attention, but the driver side-swiped the patrol car.

The trooper turned around and attempted to catch up to the driver but the wrong-way driver hit two other vehicles.

Joshua Fyffe, 17, of Ashville was killed in the crash, and a 17-year-old passenger in his car was flown to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Another driver received minor injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the wrong-way driver as Carol J. Fowler of Pickerington, 56. She was also killed. Her car had caught on fire, and the trooper injured himself breaking the window to try to rescue her.

The crash is still under investigation.

Grief counselors will be on hand Monday at Teays Valley High School where Fyffe was a senior.
