Substance that led to hazmat response at CPD headquarters determined to be cocaine


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hazmat crews have cleared the scene at the Columbus Division of Police headquarters on Marconi Boulevard after an unknown substance was brought into the building by a person being booked.

Police said the substance fell out of the person’s pocket onto the floor while the person was being booked on the first floor of the building.

Another person at the station told police the substance was fentanyl. As a result, hazmat crews were called to the scene.

Columbus police Sgt. Dean Worthington said every precaution to make sure no one comes into contact with the substance.

Columbus Division of Fire said the substance turned out to be cocaine.
