Student charged after threat prompts closure of Hayes High School in Delaware

DELAWARE, Ohio – A Rutherford B. Hayes High School student has been charged after officials say he made threatening statements against the school.

School officials contacted the Delaware Police Department Wednesday afternoon after students had come forward with information that someone may cause harm to others.

As a result, the school was closed Thursday due to safety concerns.

Police said 18-year-old Troy F. Ferguson was taken into custody and charged with one count of inducing panic.

According to police, they believe this incident involved an isolated suspect and threat. An additional investigation has not led to any other information that suggests that anyone else was involved.
