St. Patrick's Day festivities around central Ohio

Whether you're Irish or just Irish for the weekend, central Ohio has plenty of festivities celebrating this year’s St. Patrick’s Day.

FRIDAY, MARCH 15

DUBLIN:

Longshore Street between Bridge Park Avenue and Tuller Ridge Drive will be closed Friday, March 15, 6 a.m. through Monday, March 18, 12 p.m. for the Fado Pub and Kitchen St. Patrick’s Day Block Party.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16

Saturday, March 16, 2019 begins with the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast, gains momentum with the Inflation Celebration, and officially kicks off with the Greenest, Grandest Parade! In addition, restaurants and shops in historic Dublin will feature specials and live entertainment.

Approximately 110 units including marching bands, clowns, floats and giant balloons are featured in the parade before an estimated crowd of 20,000 guests.

SUNDAY, MARCH 17

COLUMBUS:

Celebrating its 82nd year, The Shamrock Club of Columbus will host its annual, traditional Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations (mass, parade and Irish Family Reunion) on Sunday, March 17, 2019.

The day begins with Mass at Saint Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St., celebrating the second Sunday of Lent at 10:30 a.m.

The annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at approximately 12:15 p.m. from the intersection of West Broad Street and Washington Boulevard. It travels east on West Broad Street, north on North High Street, and ends at the Columbus Convention Center.

Shamrock Club badges, which help fund the parade permit, will be for sale along the parade route. The cost is $2 each or three for $5. A bag of 25 is $35.

The Dance Troupes and Bands in the parade include: Irwin Academy of Irish Dance, Moriarty Lukyanova Dance Academy, Regan Rankin Holland Academy of Irish Dance, Richens/Timm Irish Dance Academy, Bishop Ready High School Band, John Marshall Fife & Drum Corps and St. Francis DeSales High School Marching Band.

Irish Family Reunion doors open at the Convention Center at noon. Opening ceremonies and musical entertainment begin at 1:15 p.m. with the Shamrock Club Pipes and Drums, Cyril Scott Pipes and Drums, Capital City Pipes and Drums, and the Columbus Police and Fire Pipes and Drums.

The annual Irish Family Reunion schedule, featuring music and cultural entertainment, is as follows:
12 p.m. – Doors open to public
1:15 to 1:45 p.m. Opening prayer and introductions
1:45 to 2:15 p.m. Irwin Academy of Irish Dance
2:15 to 3:15 p.m. The Hooligans (first set)
3:15 to 3:45 p.m. Regan-Rankin-Holland Academy of Irish Dance
3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The Hooligans (second set) All times are approximate.

Shamrock Club of Columbus evening activities after the Irish Family Reunion, continues at the Shamrock Club of Columbus, 60 W. Castle Road, 43207, immediately south of Downtown, off S. High Street. Doors open at 4 p.m. with entertainment by the McIans at 7:30 p.m. Food is available for purchase. The Shamrock Club caps off the evening with the annual tradition of the Shamrock Club Pipes and Drums returning to the Club at approximately 11 p.m.

There is a $5 cover charge for members and non-members starting at 5 p.m.
