Blue Jackets trade Nyquist for Wild's fifth-round pick in 2023 draft

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets traded one of their forwards to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced Gustav Nyquist was traded on Tuesday.

“Gustav Nyquist is a first-class person, who brought great professionalism, leadership and commitment to our organization both on and off the ice over the last five years,” said Kekalainen. “We wish he and his wife, Danielle, and their family all the best in the future.”

The 33-year-old left winger has scored 174 goals and 249 assists in his 700 career games. Nyquist has played for the Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings since making his NHL debut in 2011.

Nyquist joined Columbus as a free agent in July 2019 and has scored 43 goals and 74 assists for the club, including 10 goals and 12 assists this season.
