The Columbus Crew is the cheapest team in professional sports, according to ESPN the Magazine's "Money Issue" that comes out Friday.

In conjunction with sportingintelligence.com, the magazine ranks the highest-paying sports teams, per player, in the world.

Out of the 278 teams in 14 sports leagues in 10 countries, the Crew ranked No. 278.

According to the report, the Crew pays its players, on average, $89,369 and has a total team payroll of more than $2.7 million.

The No. 1 and 2 franchises come from soccer's Barcelona and Real Madrid of La Liga. According to the report, Barcelona pays its players, on average, $8.68 million and has a total team payroll of over $217 million.

Manchester City and Chelsea, both of the European Premier League, are third and fourth, respectively. The Los Angeles Lakers, with an average annual pay of $6.278 million, are fifth, with the New York Yankees at sixth with $6.186 million.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were sandwiched between the NFL's Green Bay Packers and Major League Baseball's Tampa Bay Rays. The Blue Jackets rose 10 places to No. 118, with an average annual pay of $2.296 million.
