PHILADELPHIA — An elderly dog has died after she was found injured in the trash in Philadelphia, according to the Pennsylvania SPCA.

The organization says on Oct. 3, the Yorkshire Terrier-type dog named Pringles was underneath trash in the can and appeared to have sustained a traumatic head injury. She was found by a Good Samaritan who heard rustling inside of the trashcan and she was immediately given medical treatment.

On Sunday, Pringles succumbed to her injuries, according to a Facebook post from the SPCA.

“While we are all shattered by this, we hope that we can all find comfort in the fact that she did not die in a trash can scared and alone, but instead was surrounded by love, the best medical treatment available, and the support of so many in the city of Philadelphia and far beyond,” the organization wrote.

“That was not to be, and while today we mourn, we will keep fighting - for Pringles.”

The organization said Pringles’ owners were identified by officers and were working to uncover leads on what lead to the dog being left in her condition.
