Shooting near Ohio State campus prompts university alerts to students

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A shooting in a parking lot near Ohio State University's campus prompted the school to send alerts warning students of a possible active shooter.

Columbus police say someone shot and wounded a 21-year-old man in the thigh in a McDonald's parking lot across from campus shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday and fled.

Ohio State issued alerts to students around 1:37 a.m. Sunday and an all-clear around 2 a.m.

Police say the injured man isn't an OSU student.
