UNION COUNTY – A semi-truck involved in a crash on U.S. 42 Wednesday morning landed in a retention pond and spilled fuel, prompting a road closure.

The Union County sheriff said the crash occurred at 6 a.m. when a 2013 Ford F-150 was struck by a semi. Preliminary investigation revealed the F-150 was westbound on Jerome Road and did not yield to a stop sign.

After the initial impact, the semi traveled off the road and into a retention pond. The driver of the semi was able to climb on top of the cab and was rescued by boat.

Both drivers were taken to Dublin Methodist Hospital.

The semi began to leak diesel fuel into the retention pond and the Union County Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency were called to the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The road was closed form 6:10 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
