Following the announcement of the hiring of two new defensive coaches, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day says Greg Schiano will not return to the team.

In a tweet, Day thanked Schiano for his work and dedication to the football program.

"I want to thank coach Greg Schiano for the example he set every day, for the players and the members of this coaching staff, of what it means to be selfless, committed and dedicated. Our players saw these attributes in Greg and they learned from his example. I, personally, also want to thank Greg for his wisdom and thoughtful guidance during my time as acting head coach this season. I wish him the best as he pursues options in the NFL."

Schiano spent the last three seasons with the Buckeyes as a defensive coordinator.

Previously, Schiano was the head coach at Rutgers for 11 seasons between 2001-2011.

During his time with the Scarlet Knights, he led the team to five consecutive bowl games. He left Rutgers to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons.
