Road closure could damage small businesses in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio - It could be months before the Watkins Road bridge over U.S. 33 re-opens.

The bridge was damaged on Thursday when it was hit by a semi.

Small business owners in the area are worried the damage to the beam could damage their business as road closed signs block through traffic.

“Even Google maps says the road is closed when you are looking for directions here,” said Sunny Meadows Flower Farm owner Gretel Adams.

This is opening weekend for the seasonal business, typically a very busy weekend.

“Makes a big difference on small businesses, definitely,” Adams said.

The beam on the bridge was damaged and the Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for people to be patient because it will take some time to replace.

Adams is hoping people will still stop and smell the flowers.
