PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is reportedly facing a fine of thousands of dollars, despite only having been on the sidelines last week.

Sources told ESPN that the quarterback, who is out for the season with an elbow injury, was fined $5,000 by the NFL for a uniform violation. The offender? An Apple Watch.

The incident happened when the Steelers hosted the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night, the news outlet reported. Roethlisberger was said to be "livid" amid the news and apparently didn't realize he had the watch on.

ESPN reports that he plans to appeal the fine, but NFL rules "ban all electric devices that transmit messaging."

On Sept. 15, Roethlisberger left at halftime complaining of elbow pain during a game against Seattle. He was placed on injured reserve and received surgery to repair his elbow the following week.
