COLUMBUS, Ohio (10TV) -- The nation’s largest “Race for the Cure” event will not step off this spring. The coronavirus pandemic claims another “mass gathering” event. Komen Columbus announced it will reschedule the 2020 Columbus Race for the Cure.

Julie McMahon, the Interim Director said the decision was not made lightly:

“Komen Columbus takes the health and safety of our participants, supporters, volunteers, staff, and the patients and survivors we serve very seriously. We are so grateful for the work of the City of Columbus and want to express our support as they also respond to this rapidly evolving situation. We will have a new date to announce in the coming days.”

Statement Regarding Postponement of Susan G. Komen Columbus Race for the Cure®

Susan G. Komen® Columbus takes the health and safety of our participants, supporters, volunteers, staff, and the patients and survivors we serve very seriously. As a result, we have made the hard decision to postpone the 2020 Komen Columbus Race for the Cure. A new date will be announced soon.

Komen Columbus is grateful for the leadership of local and statewide officials during this time. As an organization committed to public health, we fully support the directives being made as they work to safeguard the health of our citizens. And we are proud to do our part in joining the community’s effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The important work of Komen Columbus, aside from Race for the Cure, will continue uninterrupted and updates on our response can be found at komencolumbus.org/COVID19. We are still offering care coordination for patients to local, state and federal resources to stabilize housing, food, and other critical needs; hosting virtual support groups and wellness activities; and providing special support to immunosuppressed patients in need of transportation to treatment, delivery, food access or other resources during this time. This is only made possible by our tens of thousands of supporters here in central Ohio. We welcome your donations that can easily be made online at www.komencolumbus.org. We also ask you please visit www.komencolumbus.org and our social media channels to find the latest information.
