Power restored to thousands after outage in Worthington, northwest Columbus


COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Power is back on for more than 13,000 American Electric Power customers and several schools that were in the dark Tuesday in northwest Columbus.

Worthington Hills, McCord, Worthington Academy, Phoenix Middle, Granby, Liberty, Brookside and Worthington Kilborne schools were impacted by the outage, according to AEP.

AEP said the outage was a result of a mechanical issue at a substation in the area.

AEP said the power was restored around noon.
