Police: Suspect Drunk Driver Nearly Hits Children

Upper Arlington Police arrested a man accused of driving drunk and nearly striking a group of children.

Police said they received several complaints about a speeding motorcyclist in the area of Cranford Road and Sunset Drive Sunday evening.

An officer attempted to pull over Daniel Salzgaber, 30, but police say he fled. Dash camera video shows a brief police pursuit through several streets. Police said the pursuit reach speeds up to 55 miles per hour.

Investigators said the dash cam video shows Salzgaber looking back at the police cruiser and continuing to flee.   Within a minute, investigators say Salzgaber pulled into Kevin Kirk's driveway.

The video shows Salzgaber drive by a group of children near the edge of the driveway.
"That was really close. I don't have words for that. That's really shocking," said Kirk who is the stepfather of one of the children.

Kirk said prior to the incident he and Salzgaber were working on fixing a moped. He said that Salzgaber would never harm children.

"That is not typical of what I have seen with Danny in the past. He's got a great relationship with kids," Kirk said.

Upper Arlington Police said Salzgaber denied running from them. Police said Salzbager refused to take a field sobriety test.

"I'm not under the influence of anything sir," Salzgaber told police on dash camera.
Salzgaber was charged with driving while under the influence of alchohol and fleeing and eluding. Police said he was also summoned for speeding.

Salzgaber declined comment Thursday night.
