Police searching for 16-year-old suspect in fatal west Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police are searching for a teenage suspect following a fatal shooting in west Columbus on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, police said they were looking for the suspect, 16-year-old German Sanchez Jr. He is considered “armed and dangerous.”

According to police, officers were called to the 5500 block of Applefair Drive on the report of a shooting at around 8:40 p.m. There, officers found two injured men inside the residence.

One man, identified as 20-year-old Jacob Isaiah Todd, was pronounced dead at 8:52 p.m. The other man, a 21-year-old, was taken to the hospital in stable but serious condition, police said.

"He said, ‘My friend did this to us, and I can't believe he did this. We never expected this,’” a neighbor told 10TV.

Police say a murder charge and felonious assault charge have been filed against Sanchez. Both charges are currently delinquent counts.

Columbus police have investigated 18 homicides so far this year. Of those, nine of the victims have been 21 years old or younger.
