Police search for identity theft suspect that spent $20,000 in prepaid gift cards

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Division of Police needs your help to identify a suspect that used stolen prescreened credit cards from residents in the Worthington area.

In April 2018, the suspect stole mail from mailboxes in a condominium complex with pre-screened offers for credit cards and then used residents personal information to obtain credit cards, according to police.

Investigators said the suspect used five different cards, all in the victims’ names, to purchase about $20,000 in prepaid gift cards when they later arrived in the mail. The purchases were made throughout the northern Ohio area and were mostly at Target stores and Giant Eagle stores.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or indictment of the person(s) responsible for this crime. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
